Nusa Ceningan

Nusa Ceningan consists of the Strip of coastal land that lies southwards from Nusa Lembongan. It serves as the administrative centre of the Klungkung Regency.

The tiny island is also a key tourist attraction in Bali. Due to its size, visitors find that they can traverse the island in its entirety quite easily and within a day.

A good place to start would be the spectacular coral reef from the eastern region of the island. Take a dip to cool off in the summer or go surfing for an adrenaline-pumped mid-morning. The coral reefs are also an amazing place to snorkel and a sure way to come up close with a diverse range of sea creatures.

Head to the northern region of Nusa Ceningan and visit the Bakung temple. The old temple is home to the ancient sport of cockfighting and the temple’s structure is something to marvel. Proceed to the caves in the western region of the island. Conquer your claustrophobia by touring the caves and discover how nesting swallows live. At sunset, it is exciting to watch the swallows as they fly in and out of the caves.

The western part of the island has some excellent surfing spots, so you may want to ride on the waves sometime before your trip comes to an end. Make time to witness how the locals do seaweed farming as this is one of the main economic activities on the island. An interesting experience would be to hire a canoe and look at the vast plantations underwater.

You can get to Nusa Ceningan through chartered boats from Nusa Penida. Alternatively, take the yellow suspension bridge from Nusa Lembongan. It is important to note that this bridge is only accessible for pedestrians, cyclists and motorbike users only, not automobiles.
