Pasar Badung is one of Bali’s major tourist attractions, thanks to its portrayal of the island’s traditional culture and therefore is a must-visit destination for everyone.
As one of the economic hubs in the town, the traditional market plays a key role in promoting the town’s economic landscape. The market is located on Gajah Mada Street which is one of the main roads in town.
Pasar Badung Market in Denpasar Bali, Opening Hours & Location
Sadly, a fire went through the market in early 2016. So it may take a while for the market to get back to its former glory.
For visitors who would like to experience the market in all its glory, it is advisable to arrive as early as 7am. Apart from beating the huge crowds, it is a lot cooler at this time of day and the intense heat will only get worse as the market crowds swell. Another tip to use when at Pasar Badung is to wear sturdy shoes to avoid slipping as the market pathways can become covered with all manner of local produce.
Once you make a choice to purchase, make sure to negotiate the price. Most sellers will give you a better price if you just ask. Though keep in mind that you may only be haggling over 50 cents or $1 in the end, so be respectful.
With that in mind, the market is a perfect place for visitors who would like to tour the town like a local. So, whether you are looking for authentic spices or would like to get ingredients for a Bali cooking class, you can’t go wrong at Pasar Badung.
