Car Rental

Bali car rental services are available on the island which makes it easy for travellers to get around Bali during their vacation.

There are a number of car rental agencies at the airport including Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Sixt.

There are also a number of local operators that offer car hire including Auto Bali Car Rental, Bali Car Hire, Bali Island Car Rental and Bali Mutia Car Rental.

Just note that driving in Bali is not like driving in western countries as the roads can be very congested and in poor repair. There is a high proportion of scooters and motorcycles in Bali, which makes driving a little more treacherous for car drivers. Ensure you have full insurance which covers damage to the car.

As a matter of law, Indonesia requires any person driving a car or scooter to have a valid licence. This would require that you obtain an international drivers licence before driving in Bali. These can be obtained in Australia from NRMA RACV/RACQ etc, outlets and costs around $25 AUD. This is also important in case you are involved in an accident. If you have an accident and were not the holder of a ‘valid’ licence to drive in Indonesia, then your insurance company may not insure you.

If you prefer to not have to drive yourself or are looking for a car rental for a larger group, then there are a number of private drivers that you can hire who will be on call to drive you all around the island. Typically, you can hire a car driver in Bali for around 500,000 to 700,000 IDR ($50-70 AUD) per day which means that you can dictate your own schedule without having to take a tour full of other tourists.
