Puri Agung Karangasem is a popular attraction in Amlapura, a town in East Bali. Also known as Karangem Palace, the grounds previously housed the Karangasem Royal family.
The buildings here are unlike many others you will see in Bali, as they have been created using different forms of Chinese architecture.
Puri Agung Karangasem Bali, Karangem Royal Palace & Entrance Fee
This main building was constructed and gifted to the locals by Dutch colonialists and so the locals named the building to honour this memory. This action by the Dutch people explains why the Karangasem Kingdom is one of the few kingdoms that survived during Dutch Rule.
The main building in Puri Agung Karangasem has a number of rooms which include a furnished living room and a royal bedroom. A short walk around the grounds will give you a feel for the influences of the Dutch colonial inhabitants and how this was incorporated into the local customs and architecture.
Entry is free, although a donation is welcomed; around 10,000 per person is sufficient.
