Bali Temples

To learn more about the culture of Bali, visitors should take the time to visit the many temples located all over the island.

You will often be required to cover your knees and ankles with a sarong which can be provided (for a small fee) by the locals at the entrance, or you can bring your own.

Best Temples in Bali & Most Famous Temples in Kuta & Ubud Map

Tanah Lot Temple is a unique temple that is perched on a rocky outcrop over the sea. Located near North Kuta, this temple is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Bali. The temple cannot be reached during high tide, which occurs during the morning and after sunrise. However, the best pictures occur in the morning where the temple is surrounded by the ocean, or at sunset as the sun drops down beyond the horizon.

Uluwatu Temple is an iconic temple in Bali, instantly recognisable as it sits atop a 70-metre high cliff and looks out over the sea. Apart from being a place of worship, Uluwatu Temple is also known as the venue of the famous Kecak performance. It is located on the southern-most tip of Bali island.

Pura Besakih is Bali’s most popular temple and arguably the holiest location in Bali. It is referred to as the Besakih ‘Mother Temple’ and comprises of 86 temples throughout the grounds. The temple is located about 1000 metres high up on Gunung Agung, which gives the temple grounds spectacular views of the eastern regions of Bali.

So make sure to stop by some of the temples during your stay in Bali and pay your respects to the culture of the Balinese people.
