Bajra Sandhi Monument

The Bajra Sandhi Monument is a massive structure with historic significance symbolising the struggle of the Balinese people against the Dutch colonists.

It is located right in front of Bali Governor’s office in Denpasar City so is easily accessible and very easy to find.

The monument is creatively designed in the shape of a giant Hindu bell. Visitors are invited to explore the three floors of the Bajra Sandhi Monument. The first floor which goes by the native name, Nistaning Utama Mandala, hosts the reception area, a conference room and an exhibition room. It also has some sort of library where visitors can read the full history of the monument.

The second floor is where visitors are taken through various struggles endured by the Balinese people over the years. The session covers various dynasties and political timelines of Bali. It features the dynasties of the Bali kingdom, the era of Hinduism and the Dutch colonisation up to Bali’s independence.

The third floor of the monument also known as the Utamaning Utama Mandala is regarded as the place of tranquillity. The rooms are silent enough to provide a peaceful environment for meditation. From here, visitors are able to enjoy a clear view of their surroundings.

The Bajra Sandhi Monument is a great place to visit while in Bali and it gives visitors a chance to explore, enjoy and appreciate the rich history of the place they called the island of the gods.
